Brian P. Murphy is an accomplished and experienced trial attorney with a track record of success in both civil and criminal courtrooms.  Mr. Murphy’s practice is focused on helping individuals who are catastrophically injured due to the negligence of others.  By jury verdict, mediation, arbitration and settlement, Mr. Murphy has secured millions of dollars for his injured clients.  In recent years, Mr. Murphy's accomplishments in the courtroom were recognized in the New York Law Journal's "Top Verdicts" and "Top Settlements" publication, highlighting the largest jury verdicts in New York State during the previous year. 

In addition to representing people injured in construction accidents, car accidents, slips, and other personal injury matters, Mr. Murphy also represents those who have been arrested and need a trial attorney to protect their rights.  As a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Murphy’s advocacy, attention to detail, and passion for obtaining justice for his clients has earned him the respect of judges, colleagues, and adversaries.

Prior to joining The Matera Law Firm, Mr. Murphy served as the Managing Attorney for a successful plaintiff’s personal injury firm.  As Managing Attorney, Mr. Murphy supervised a team of over 50 attorneys, paralegals, and staff and oversaw the resolution of cases providing tens of millions of dollars in compensation to firm clients.

Earlier, Mr. Murphy was an Associate at Bond, Schoeneck and King, PLLC, where his practice focused in the areas of labor and employment law and civil litigation for a variety of public and private sector clients.  Mr. Murphy regularly worked with labor unions during collective bargaining, disciplinary hearings, mediations and arbitrations.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Murphy served as an Assistant District Attorney in the County Court Trial Bureau of the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Murphy prosecuted and tried a wide variety of felony cases, including murders, robberies, and a significant number of major vehicular crimes cases involving serious injuries and fatalities. While a prosecutor, Mr. Murphy conducted jury trials to verdict with a tremendous success rate.


Mr. Murphy earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law, where he served as Executive Articles Editor of the A.B.I. Law Review. Previously, Mr. Murphy was a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College, earning a Bachelors of Arts in History.
