Throughout New York State, different courthouses have handled plea bargaining and plea negotiations during the time of arraignment very differently. Here at our firm, we’ve handled cases from the two counties on Long Island all the way to upstate New York. And it’s important to understand that distinction that every courthouse is a little bit different. Whereas on Long Island, they’re not as quick to enter into plea negotiations at the time of arraignment, in the five boroughs, they’re much more likely to enter into plea negotiations and possibly even resolve a case at the time of arraignment under certain circumstances.

So it is certainly possible to resolve the case at arraignment and for that reason, it is also extremely important to have an attorney as most prosecutors are not going to be willing to speak under normal circumstances to an individual charged with a crime about the possibility of a plea bargain right then and there.

Are you unsure about what to expect at arraignment? Having an experienced attorney by your side during the arraignment process can significantly improve your chances of getting better conditions of release imposed by the court.
